Oral Hygiene is one of the most important steps to takes in orthodont treatment as always but exspecialy important when wearing braces, wires, bands or retainers. Braces, wires, bands or retainers can trap food particles and if not properly flossed and bushed away this can cause tooth decay, plaque build-up, and gum disease, by careful brushing and flossing this can easily be prevented.

Steps to brushing and Flossing:

Always brush your teeth at least 2 to 3 times a day. Small circles are good form, and spend at least 30 seconds on each bracket. Make sure to always brush between wires and around brackets and band.

    •  Use small circular motions and start outside of the teeth.

    •  Clean in the areas between gums and braces.

    •  After the you are done cleaning between gums and braces, you will then want to move to the upper and lower chewing surface.

    •  Last step finish brushing the upper and lower back of the insides of teeth.

Flossing Steps

Even though flossing can be difficult, it is also, very important. When flossing while  wearing baces we recommend a Floss threader, a floss threader makes it eaiser when flossing with braces. To thread a floss threader you are going to pull the floss through the loop on the floss threader the use the straight end to pull through desired wirer. Follow the steps below for proper flossing techneqiue.


    • Pull the floss though desired wire and gently move the floss up and down of both sides of the teeth and always go up under the gum gentle.

    •  Pull the floss out and repeat the same steps to the rest of the teeth.
